Blade Runner 2049 won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Visual Effects at this year’s Academy Awards, as well as Best Achievement in Special Visual Effects at the 2018 BAFTA Awards.
Both of these awards were received by:
John Nelson (Overall VFX Supervisor),
Gerd Nefzer (Special Effects Supervisor),
Paul Lambert (VFX Supevisor at Double Negative)
Richard R. Hoover (VFX Supervisor at Framestore)
These four industry leaders represented a large team of artists, technicians, and production staff who made all of the arresting and unforgettable visuals of this film possible.
Among the artists honoured by these awards were multiple Lost Boys alumni! VFX Supervisor Paul Lambert, seen below, brought the awards to Double Negative’s Vancouver studio so the artists could hold and take photos with the awards.
Congratulations to the VFX team for Blade Runner 2049! You make us proud! Lost Boys graduates seen here: Xian Guan, Miguel Ortiz, Ricardo Montero de Espinosa, Eduardo Bivar, and Curro Doyagüez.
